Sustainability is at the heart of what we do at Menchine. This is achieved through a number of pursuits, from renewably powered vehicles, to improving our carbon capturing capabilities.
Aiming to be net zero we have taken on the massive responsibility of lowering our carbon output. We have done this through a number of methods including; planting over 2500 trees in recent years, limiting the occurrence of hedge trimming on our land, investing in technology and changing practices to lower our carbon output. We aim to complete our farm carbon footprint soon which will enable us to track and progress with our carbon management.
The farm currently operates two methane powered tractors, which we can fill using biogas produced on site, an efficient manner of working.
Solar investment in recent years has resulted in the farm operating around 240 kW of solar energy across various sites – a true step towards more sustainable energy production in the UK.

10 bee hives have been installed on the farm, home to approximately 500,000 bees!
A small wind turbine installed in 2010 helps to lower our carbon footprint.
Biomass boilers are used to heat two of our poultry sites, a low emission way of operating.
Over the last few years we have cut our artificial fertilizer use by 90% by using all natural fertilizer on our land and selling to nearby farmers.
We have seen an increase in our soil health over the last few years with an abundance of earthworms and higher nitrous oxide levels. We use minimum tillage techniques where possible for our grass and cereal development.
We have invested in areas of wildlife conservation by constructing ponds and planting trees and shrubbery which will not only benefit local wildlife but also help in our quest to become net zero.
