Broilers

We currently operate 3 poultry sites on the farm producing 1,000,000 RSPCA approved higher-welfare birds a year. The first site was developed over 15 years ago on the east side of the farm as a form of diversification and since then has grown into one of our main projects.

As contract growers for Hook2Sisters LTD we grow our birds from day old to finishing weight taking the best care of the chickens as possible. We strive to achieve the best bird growth possible whilst maintaining high welfare standards.

At the end of each crop of birds, the chicken litter is collected and used to feed the on-site AD plant, in return the heat produced dries woodchip from sustainable local forests and used as fuel for biomass boilers to heat the chicken sheds. Alongside heating the sheds, the AD plant also provides all the electricity required for the sheds. The water consumed by the birds is sourced by on-farm boreholes. This provides us with an extremely sustainable way of producing meat for UK consumers.

We are currently working with tech start up company called FLOX who are developing artificial intelligence software to monitor birds within the sheds. This is an exciting prospect and promises to deliver many benefits to our production system.
